SYNTHWAVE/LIVE

Volcan is the alias of Greg Vezon, who began releasing tracks in 2012. His electronic music is both spectacular and intimate, noisy and enveloping, oscillating between dark ambient, minimal synth & cold electronica. His machine-based live performances, built around evolving loops, construct atmospheric and hypnotic landscapes and are often accompanied by projections emulated by a synth-video also played live. He performed in many venue in Europe & Aisa. His latest LP "Chanson pour le Néant" has been released by Objetrouvé label.

TSIMSTUM

TECHNO/LIVE

The Tsimtsum project sets up on deep, gritty garage-infused techno, harmonies, and evolutions that draw from the musical background of a classically trained composer. Bridging delicate Parisian electronica with tart Berlinoise analog traditions, all sounds are meticulously honed and specified, organic, hypnotic, and in inner motion. Atmospheres — dusty, mystic, groovy, yet they also speak emotionally.

The PLAIN DISTRICT is a non-profit platform focusing on the expanding spectrum of electronic music culture, curating annual events in cities across China. Over four years, the Plain District has been breaking raw ground, presenting novel and site-specific event formats from caves to clubs, from industrial and architectural spaces to concert halls, continuously expanding the innovative power and adaptability of the platform.

Supported by the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, the German embassy in Beijing, and the German consulates in Chengdu and Guangzhou, the Plain District has been fostering the creative dialogue and sustainable cultural exchange between electronic music protagonists and communities in China and internationally since 2021.

The
PLAIN DISTRICT 2024, themed FLUX FICTION, expanded on its 2023 curatorial focus Void Refraction, switching its experimental Modus Operandi from the breaking to the making throughout eight events. “The flux” implies a flow of constant modulation and change, amplified and multiplied by “The fiction” the imagination, merging into  “Flux Fictions” stimulating unpredictable, unstable, and untested manifestations of artistic expression.

The curated lineup of POSTFICTION teleports a selection of collaborating artists from the Plain District to Berlin, connecting creative minds from Asia, France, and Germany for a unique night of musical practice and performance at LARK Berlin — offering a sonic and emotional experience.

PLAIN DISTRICT joined forces with IDLE SUBJECTS for its first satellite event outside China, motivated by the artists involved. POST FICTION echoes the final FLUX FICTION event in 2024 in Guangzhou, as much as it headlines the present.

The Spirit Imagine the "Plain District" to be like a matrix of visions and experiences. Imagine a mega-city that has a district you could walk in and which is entirely plain, and which temporarily unfolds itself in front of you, becoming a momentary mind space to walk through.Once you walk out of there it will become entirely plain again, and all left are memories and the impact of those experiences. Whenever you walk inside again it will be of a different architecture as this space has no fixed creator.

ABOUT The Plain District stands for the current electronic music field, it offers space for uncommon grounds and uncommon sounds. Its character is transitory, it is part of a trans-metropolitan reality, to interconnect sonically, socially, and mentally.

It is intentionally a patchwork of ideas, a collage of artistic statements, an architecture of drafts. From an urban soil, its building blocks are manifold, some of them formed out of sounds, a sonic architecture.

THE FLOW — THE FICTION
In their thought and work processes, artists are subject to a permanent flow of shaking and making — breaking, deconstructing, cracking open, and creating. The results and snapshots of this process manifest themselves in the form of artistic vision and practice. Every work of art, every type of performance, is ultimately only an excerpt of a creative concept and serves as a means of transport to make an idea visible, audible, or tangible.

The Plain District originates from such fiction, as a matrix of constant change and renewal — a temporary coming into the world, without ever assuming or aiming for a fixed, final form. It is an imaginary space where artistic musical processes and visions converge and are made perceptible for being experienced in the dialogue of designed space and musical performance.

The field of electronic music remains open, constantly expanding, and in a state of permanent experimentation; a field that can potentially touch or enter into exchange with every other music genre and any form of musical and creative practice. It spans and causes an artistic and social network of physical and virtual qualities, passing through multitudes of parallel processes, incorporating and generating wide varieties of production and performance methods.

In a digitally dominated world in which it is no longer possible to distinguish between fiction and reality, the “fake” and the “real”, in which the subjective image of the world is perpetually generated at high-speed frame rates via social media and shifts exponentially through the dynamic implementation of artificial intelligence, the experience of artistic and musical ideas in a physical space with social interaction is becoming as rare as it is valuable.
